Elizabeth Apgar-Smith, best known for her impressionistic landscapes of the Schoharie Valley region, cityscapes, still lifes, and depictions of people engaged in everyday living, is currently focusing on an evolving, touring exhibition, Faithful Labors, a tribute to Schoharie County’s farm families. The exhibit opened in spring of 2005 at Wellington’s Herb & Spice Farm Gallery in Schoharie, then moved on to The Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont, followed by stops at The Old Forge Arts Center, The Rensselaerville Institute, and two summers at the Smithy Gallery in Cooperstown.
The Skidmore College graduate has earned numerous regional and national honors over the years for her pastels, watercolors and oils. She has been featured in articles in two major art magazines, and has had multiple examples of her work included in six books on painting technique.
Elizabeth teaches at the Hudson River Valley Art Workshops in Greenville, NY, and offers weekly classes in the spring and fall from her studio in Schoharie. She is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America, the Northeast Watercolor Society and the Capital Region Oakroom Artists.

MichelleWinnie was born in Scotia, New York in 1962. Before dedicating her time to painting, Michelle earned a B.A.in biology and a M.A. in secondary science. After teaching high school science for 10 years, Michelle retired to raise her 4 children and help her husband establish a dental practice. Michelle’s painting career began when she attended painting classes at Skidmore College in 2002.
Since 2002, Michelle has participated in and won awards in numerous local and national shows.
Currently Michelle maintains a studio at 79 Beekman Street, the Art District in Saratoga Springs.

Regionally her sculpture has been exhibited at the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery and the Schick Gallery at Skidmore College, the Art Gallery at the State University of New York at Albany, the Albany Institute of History and Art, Adirondack Community College, and the Southern Vermont Arts Center as well as in many private galleries. She collaborated with two other artists on the artwork for the Saratoga Train Station. Her recent work, which includes both sculpture and engraved paintings, was shown at Sea Fair in Miami, Art Palm Beach, and Art Santa Fe.
Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
She owns a warehouse/studio called “9 Pine Alley” in Saratoga Springs that is open by appointment.

Miller has always had an interest in the play of light on objects, and the strong illusion of three-dimensions on two-dimensional surfaces. Highly resolved paintings encourage the viewer to consider the subtleties of the images, and slow down and take the time needed to make associations.
Her recent work uses miniature toys as actors and backyard gardens as stages, creating enigmatic scenarios for the oil painting series, Garden Stories. These paintings combine a long-standing interest in dioramas since her childhood in Chicago, with preoccupations about current events, especially environmental and geo-political tensions.
Past series include portraits of chairs, and, daily life in China. Chairs were paired with historical and modern artists who seemingly share or reinforce each other’s personality and even mood. Flowers are included to provide a visual bridge between the subject and representation of a well-known work of art. With a nod to early daguerreotype portraits of family members, the backgrounds are kept plain, and the subject looks directly at the viewer. The gouache paintings on paper were inspired by Miller’s experiences and various travels to People’s Republic of China, where, as Visiting Skidmore College Professor, she taught Western-Style Oil Painting at Qufu Teacher’s University. Miller also served as guest curator of “Beijing Now: Oil Paintings by Twelve Chinese Artists” at First Street Gallery, and faculty curator for “Brushing the Present: Contemporary Academy Painting from China” at the Tang Teaching Museum.
